Starting in November 2019, I will be writing about various topics with something new available each month. Today, I will be sharing a bit about myself. I am a lifelong resident of the State of Delaware. For over 11 years, I have been employed by United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware. My role there is client Advisor, which is part of the Client Assistance Program which UCP of DE administers.
I also serve on several boards. As of this writing, I am Chairman of Delaware Transit Corporation’s Elderly and Disabled Transit Advisory Committee (EDTAC). The purpose of EDTAC is to provide feedback regarding fixed route and Paratransit services within the state. Meeting attendees also have an opportunity to learn about what is new with Paratransit and fixed route bus services. I also currently serve as Secretary of the Delaware Statewide Independent Living Council, whose focus is independent living services for Delawareans with disabilities. Lastly, I am a member of the Division for the Visually Impaired (DVI) Independent Living Advisory Committee and DVI’s State Rehabilitation Council. Those councils enable the state agency to receive feedback about their independent living and vocational rehabilitation services, respectively.
Recently, I attended a luncheon presented by the State Council for Persons with Disabilities. Although I am not presently a member of that council, the event was definitely worth attending. Prior to the luncheon, presentations were made by various state departments and divisions. The consistent theme was efforts by various Delaware agencies to include people with disabilities and enable them to live self-fulfilling lives.
Later this month, I will be discussing a topic pertaining to employment. Stay tuned!
